English Courses

Churchill House has been teaching English for over 40 years and our method has helped people from all over the world. Our flexible course design gives you the option of adding courses to a General English course to allow you to work on your skills or prepare for important exams.

I’m having a fantastic experience learning English at Churchill House. The classes are small, often no more than 10 students per class, so teachers have lots of interaction with the students. I’m making rapid progress.

Standard Course – General English

Our main course is a General English programme which is designed to help students develop their fluency and confidence, while also developing their skills in speaking, reading, writing and listening.

The courses provide a structured and enjoyable way to progress in English and achieve learning targets. We encourage students to develop their own independent learning skills and we monitor progress through regular assessment and feedback reports.

All General English Standard Courses are 15 hours per week (20 lessons) with 3 hours of tuition each weekday morning. In addition, all students are expected to complete at least one hour of homework a day.

Note: Beginners must follow a 32 lesson per week intensive course for at least the first month of their course. The minimum age to attend classes is 16 years old – students aged 16 or 17 must attend a 32 lesson per week intensive course.

Intensive Courses

We can build an intensive course to meet your needs by adding elective courses to your standard course. Afternoon Elective classes provide a choice for students to either practise a particular skill (e.g. writing, listening, speaking), broaden their knowledge in a specific language or cultural area (e.g. business or academic English), or focus on preparing for exams.

Each Elective class adds 5 hours per week (2 afternoons of 2.5 hours), so if you take one Elective course on top of your main course you study for 20 hours each week, or 25 hours if you take 2 Elective courses.
