Non-Summer Group Courses

Our Non-Summer Group Courses are a popular choice for schools, colleges, companies, and other organisations looking for short-term English language programmes outside the summer season.

Courses are available from September to June, with durations from 1 to 12 weeks and a flexible choice of 15 to 35 hours of lessons per week in closed group classes. Lessons can focus on General English, Specialised English, or a combination of both, tailored to your group’s needs and goals.
We welcome groups of students aged 10 and above for residential accommodation, and 12 and above for homestay. There is no upper age limit.

The usual minimum group size is 12 students, though we can accept smaller groups (please note this may increase the cost per student).

Accommodation options include:

  • Homestay with our carefully selected host families.
  • Residential accommodation at St Lawrence College, a traditional English boarding school in Ramsgate.

Groups can also choose to include a customised programme of activities and excursions, from sports and local cultural experiences to half-day, full-day, and multi-day trips.

Standard courses and pricing are outlined in our Price List, but we strongly recommend contacting us directly to discuss your group’s specific needs. We’ll be happy to provide a tailored course proposal and a detailed quotation.

Non-Summer Groups Teaching

At Churchill House, our goal is to help every student make real progress towards their language goals by delivering high-quality English teaching in a supportive, engaging, and professional environment.

Our courses focus on building confidence, fluency, and communication skills through interactive, student-centred lessons. Classes are taught in small groups, ensuring personalised attention and support from our experienced and enthusiastic teachers.

We use a communicative teaching approach, with carefully structured syllabuses that can be tailored to your group’s specific needs. Lessons are active and varied, using a mix of modern teaching methods, authentic materials, and multimedia resources delivered via interactive whiteboards.

Course content often includes project-based tasks such as creating group magazines, preparing excursion-related activities, performing sketches, or developing product pitches—encouraging creativity, collaboration, and practical use of English.

Before arrival, students complete an online placement test to ensure they are placed in the right level. At the end of the course, all students receive a written progress report and a certificate of completion.

We are happy to design bespoke courses on request, including options such as exam preparation, business English, or English for travel and tourism. Combined with our wide range of social activities, this approach ensures students continue learning—and enjoying English—long after their course has ended.

Accommodation Options in Ramsgate

Homestay – Live and Learn with a British Host family

Our most popular accommodation option is homestay, where students live with a local British family. It’s an excellent way to experience British culture and practise English in a natural, everyday environment.

Churchill House has over 50 years of experience working with host families in Ramsgate. We have more than 100 trusted families located within a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride from the school. All households are personally inspected each year by our Accommodation Managers to ensure they meet our high standards of cleanliness, comfort, and friendliness.

We work with our homestay families year-round, so they are familiar with our students’ needs and are encouraged to speak English with them as much as possible.

Homestay Options include:

  • Half board: Breakfast and dinner with your host Monday–Friday, plus lunch on weekends.
  • Full board: Breakfast and dinner with your host; weekday lunches provided at school, weekend lunches at home.
  • Single room or shared room options available.

Residential Accommodation – St Lawrence College

For groups who prefer residential accommodation, we offer stays at St Lawrence College in Ramsgate. Groups are housed in The Grange, a traditional on-campus boarding house with:

  • Shared dormitory-style rooms
  • Clean, secure facilities with shared bathrooms
  • Weekly linen changes
  • On-site staff supervision and support 24/7

This option is ideal for groups wanting to stay together in a residential setting with round-the-clock care.

Other Local Accommodation

We can also help arrange alternative local accommodation, including:

  • A hotel just 5 minutes from the school
  • A guesthouse located 15 minutes away

These options are available on request, depending on availability and group requirements.
