Located just outside the historic port town of Dover, and within sight of its iconic Norman castle, Duke of York School offers a unique English summer school experience in the English countryside. This 200-year-old boarding school combines tradition with modern facilities, including newly built junior accommodation, a professional theatre, and expansive sports grounds.

The campus is safe and self-contained, making it ideal for younger learners experiencing study abroad for the first time. With multi-bedded dorms that encourage friendship and a vibrant international community, students quickly feel at home. Older learners also benefit from the wide range of facilities and varied programme.

Sports & Activities – Climbing and Swimming at Dover

The Duke of York School is the perfect setting for students who love sport and adventure. With a beautiful Edwardian swimming pool, a professional sports hall, large playing fields, and an on-site climbing wall, the campus offers endless opportunities to try new challenges, stay active, and build confidence.

In addition to these facilities, students enjoy:

  • 5 afternoon activities per week
  • 7 evening social events
  • One half-day excursion to Canterbury or Leeds castle
  • One full-day trip each week to major destinations such as London or Oxford

The highlight for many is the free climbing activity, where a professional instructor helps students learn the ropes, conquer challenges, and grow in confidence.

Courses Overview

Our English language courses are designed to help students develop their fluency and confidence in a friendly, multicultural environment. The focus is on real communication, self-expression, and learning through engaging weekly themes.

  • Six levels available, from A1 to C2
  • Placement test on arrival to ensure students join the right class for their level
  • 15 hours of English lessons per week, taught by qualified teachers
  • Project-based learning to encourage creativity and cultural understanding
  • Course completion certificate provided for every student

One half-day excursion to Canterbury or Leeds Castle

One full-day excursion each week to London or Oxford/Cambridge
