How Do We Make Sure Your Child Is Safe and Happy?

At Churchill House, your child’s safety, well-being, and happiness are at the heart of everything we do. For over 50 years, parents around the world have trusted us to care for their children while they learn English, make friends, and experience British life. We take that trust seriously — every decision we make is designed to ensure that each student feels secure, supported, and valued from the moment they arrive.

Our approach to student welfare reflects our Mission, Vision, and Values, placing the care of every child at the centre of our work. We believe that students learn best when they feel happy, safe, and confident — and our teams are trained to create an environment where this can happen every day.

A Safe and Supportive Environment

  • British Council accredited and members of English UK, ensuring that our safeguarding, welfare, and teaching practices meet national quality standards.
  • All staff complete comprehensive safeguarding and welfare training before each course begins.
  • We maintain high staff-to-student ratios (1:8 on residential courses) for attentive supervision and personal care.
  • There is always a 24-hour emergency phone line, so support is available at any time.

Carefully Selected Accommodation

Whether your child stays in one of our residential centres or with a local host family, they will be in safe hands.

  • All homestay families are personally known to us, inspected annually, and chosen for their warmth, care, and suitability.
  • Our residential centres are secure and fully supervised, with Churchill House staff on site 24 hours a day.
  • Students are placed in accommodation that suits their preferences, dietary needs, and comfort levels.
  • If a student ever feels unhappy, our welfare team listens carefully and acts quickly to resolve or relocate as needed.

Trained, Caring Staff

Our teachers, activity leaders, and centre teams are chosen not only for their qualifications but for their care and commitment.

  • All staff undergo enhanced background checks (DBS) and child protection training.
  • Welfare Officers and Centre Managers are always available to talk about any concerns, no matter how small.
  • We maintain open communication with parents, agents, and group leaders to ensure every student is supported throughout their stay.

Promoting Happiness and Confidence

We want every child to leave Churchill House feeling proud, independent, and inspired.

  • A full programme of sports, activities, and excursions helps students make friends and practise English naturally.
  • We encourage respect, kindness, and inclusion in every aspect of school life.
  • Anti-bullying and behaviour policies are clear and consistent, discussed during induction and reinforced by staff.
  • Our team is trained to recognise homesickness or anxiety early and respond with understanding and care.

Partnership with Parents

We understand the importance of peace of mind. That’s why we maintain clear communication before, during, and after your child’s stay.

  • Parents and group leaders receive contact details for their child’s centre and emergency numbers before arrival.
  • Every excursion, activity, and accommodation arrangement is risk assessed and monitored for safety.
  • You can rest assured that we treat every student as we would our own — with attention, respect, and genuine care.

At Churchill House we offer English language courses that have been designed especially for groups of students – adults or juniors – visiting the UK to study together. Our group mini-stay language courses are available throughout the year at our main school in Ramsgate and we can build a course to suit your needs.

Summer Centres

Our Summer English courses are designed to help students improve their fluency and build confidence in speaking English. Lessons focus on speaking and listening activities, enabling students to apply their existing knowledge while developing their communication skills. Students are encouraged to practise English with peers from other nationalities, both in class and during activities.
