Plumpton College, founded in 1919, is a leading English summer centre for young learners in the heart of the East Sussex countryside. Just a short distance from the historic town of Lewes and the vibrant coastal city of Brighton.

At Plumpton, students benefit from a safe, welcoming residential environment with modern single rooms and shared facilities. The highlight is our Awesome Activities Programme—a unique mix of adventure, creativity, and outdoor fun that helps students practise English, build confidence, and make international friendships.

Awesome Activities Programme

The Awesome Activities Programme makes Plumpton unlike any other English summer school. Every week is packed with exciting challenges, creative projects, and outdoor experiences designed to ignite curiosity and boost confidence.

Activities may include:

• Climbing Wall – Reach new heights with safe indoor climbing challenges
• Paddleboarding – Balance adrenaline and calm on the water
• Archery – Build precision and focus with expert guidance
• Animal Care – Learn how to look after animals including meerkats and llamas
• E-Sports – Test strategy and teamwork in fast-paced gaming sessions
• Bake Off! – Compete in baking challenges in Plumpton’s Agri-Food Hub kitchens
• Working Farm Tours – Discover real farm life and sustainable agriculture
• Pottery Workshops – Creative, hands-on sessions available during selected weeks

Each week also includes:

• 5 afternoon activities
• 7 evening social events
• 1 half-day excursion to local towns or attractions
• 1 full-day excursion to major UK cities or cultural sites

Courses Overview

Our English language courses are designed to help students develop their fluency and confidence in a friendly, multicultural environment. The focus is on real communication, self-expression, and learning through engaging weekly themes.

• Six levels available, from A1 to C2
• Placement test on arrival to ensure students join the right class for their level
• 15 hours of English lessons per week, taught by qualified teachers
• Project-based learning to encourage creativity and cultural understanding
• Course completion certificate provided for every student

One half-day excursion to Chichester or Brighton

One full-day excursion each week to London or Cambridge
